Lidiia, a 98-year-old resident of the occupied village of Ocheretyne in the Donetsk region, had to travel about 10 kilometers under fire to escape. The Russian invaders destroyed her home. However, there is some good news – the Ukrainian bank monobank has generously offered to purchase a new home for this older woman.

The co-owner of monobank, Oleh Horohovsky, announced this.

"You keep enduring emotionally through all of this, doing your best with what you have, and then you come across a story like this, and everything just comes out," he wrote.

Horokhovsky reported that monobank would buy a house for Lidiia:

"And she will definitely live in it until the moment when this abomination [the Russian occupiers – ed.] disappears from our land."

The National Police shared Lidiia's story yesterday. In the evening, the military discovered the exhausted elderly woman on the road and brought her to the "White Angel" police team.

Lidiia ventured out of the occupied area of Ocheretine by herself, having walked approximately 10 kilometers. She was using a walking stick for support. Along the way, she fell multiple times and, as she puts it, "dozed off."

"She held onto two sticks and her resilience. Amid the fighting, the elderly woman miraculously survived unscathed," the police said.

The woman said that the Russians destroyed the house she built with her own hands, and her relatives were injured.

"I survived that war [the II World War – ed.], and I'm going through this one. And I was left with nothing. That war was not like that – not a single house burned down. And now they burned, and trees were uprooted," the woman said.

When the military spotted the woman on the road, they quickly put her in a car and reached out to the "White Angels" for assistance in getting her to a secure location. Later, the police discovered that Lidiia's family members were hospitalized in Kostiantynivka, and her granddaughter would be picking her up.

For reference:

Earlier, an 88-year-old man in the Donetsk region left the part of the Ocheretyne village that was under occupation to avoid obtaining Russian citizenship. Volunteers greeted him in an area controlled by the Ukrainian military and brought him to a secure location.

The Russians are still making gains, putting pressure on the Ukrainian military using artillery and aircraft. According to Nazar Voloshyn, the spokesperson for the "Khortytsia" unit, the Russians are constantly attacking Ukrainian positions on the Avdiivka front, nonstop for 24 hours a day.

Right now, the fiercest fighting is happening, specifically for the village of Ocheretyne. According to Voloshyn, the Russian army is attempting to penetrate the defenses of Ukrainian soldiers with four brigades. In response, Ukraine's military is mobilizing additional resources from reserve units for defense.

The situation at the front is worsening. Enemy troops are trying to seize the strategic initiative on the battlefield.

On April 28, it became known that the Defense Forces military also withdrew to the west of the settlements of Berdychi, Semenivka, and Novomykhailivka on the Avdiivka front to save the lives of the personnel.
