BGV Charity Fund organizes training for internally displaced persons in Kyiv region

On April 17, the "Safe Territory" project hosted educational training sessions on mine safety and pre-hospital medical assistance for 80 internally displaced persons (IDPs) living in the Bilohorodka territorial community.

"Ukraine still has very few projects like this, although mine safety and pre-hospital assistance are very relevant topics during wartime," said Polina Aldoshyna, Chair of the BGV Charity Fund. "It's important to take an interest because such knowledge can save our lives and those around us."

She continued, "As of January 2023, 30% of Ukrainian land is mined. Demining requires a lot of resources and time. Mine-contaminated areas, even in the Kyiv region, are right next to us. That's why knowing how to recognize a mine, what to do when you find one, and what to do before medical help arrives if an explosion occurs is simply a must-have in our time, especially for IDPs who plan to return home. Unfortunately, they'll need these skills for many years to come, as the problem of mines will not disappear even after the war ends."

Oleksii Rebrunenko, the civil protection service major and chief inspector of the Emergency Prevention Department of the Bucha Regional Unit of Ukraine's State Emergency Service, conducted two mine safety training workshops. Natalia Stepchuk, head of the Kyiv region's State Emergency Service Health Care Unit, led practical sessions on pre-hospital assistance.

Participants included IDP teenagers and adults, teachers, and social workers. Each received educational materials to distribute so that as many people as possible could acquire the necessary knowledge.

Teachers can conduct themed classroom hours in schools and distribute brochures to students, while social workers will share information with the IDPs they work with. A projector with a screen, a laptop, and 80 sets of thematic card games were purchased for the training. They will remain in the community's use.

The BGV Charity Fund's grant project "Safe Territory" is being implemented within the Spilnofond project, made possible by the synergy of the Community Foundation "Podilska Hromada," the Charitable Foundation MHP – Gromadi," and the ISAR Ednannia within the Ukraine Civil Society Sectoral Support Activity project.

The BGV Fund initiated fundraising for educational training sessions, raising UAH 75,000, enabling this project to win a grant competition. The grantor doubled the raised amount.
