Ukraine's intelligence carried out the shooting down of the Tu-22MZ bomber over Russian territory. The Russian plane was successfully targeted from 300 km away.

A source in the Defense Forces stated this in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.

According to the source, the Tu22MZ was taken down by the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense. Following the shooting down of the bomber, the one flying behind it changed direction.

"This is the first strategic aviation plane that Ukraine managed to destroy during the flight. It was striking Ukraine," the interlocutor said.

The source also adds that the Tu-22MZ was attacked at a distance of 300 km from Ukraine.

A Tu-22M3 missile-carrying bomber crashed in the Stavropol region of the Russian Federation – Russia uses such aircraft to strike Ukraine.

"Urgent message. A plane has crashed in a field in the territory of Krasnogvardeysk district. From the operational report, there were no casualties or injuries; the pilots safely ejected," the governor of the Stavropol Territory, Volodymyr Vladimirov, said earlier on Telegram.

He did not write other details but published a photo of the crashed plane.

Later, he mentioned that they had located two pilots from the plane, who were alive and being transported to the hospital.

"All of the services went to the scene," the governor said.

According to Telegram channels monitoring the situation, it has been reported that a Tu22MZ has crashed (Russia reportedly uses these planes for attacks on Ukraine) and has been shot down.

The spokesman of the Air Force of Ukraine, Illia Yevlash, could neither confirm nor deny the information that the plane was shot down on the territory of the Russian Federation.

"I can neither confirm nor deny it. We are currently checking the information," Yevlash said.

Later, the Russian propaganda publication RIA Novosti, citing the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, confirmed that the Russian Air Force's Tu-22M3 supersonic bomber-missile carrier fell.

Attention, strong language.

It is reported that the plane "crashed in the Stavropol Territory after completing a combat mission while returning to the base airfield."

"The pilots ejected, the search and rescue team evacuated three crew members, and the search for one pilot is currently underway. There was no ammunition on board; the plane crashed in a deserted area," the propagandists said in a statement.

It is reported that the cause of the accident was allegedly a technical malfunction.

For reference:

It should be noted that on the night of April 19, Russia attacked Ukraine with Shahed-type kamikaze drones and missiles.

The Russian Federation launches missiles specifically from the sides of the Tu-22M3. The Mozdok military airfield (North Ossetia) is located near the border with the Stavropol Territory, where Tu-22M3s of the Russian Air Force are based.

Later, it became known that Ukrainian forces had managed to destroy the enemy plane. Thus, for the first time, the anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Force, in cooperation with the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, destroyed the Tu-22M3 long-range strategic bomber – the carrier of Kh-22 cruise missiles, which Russian terrorists use to attack peaceful Ukrainian cities.

"During today's attack, two such missiles were destroyed for the first time," Air Force Commander Mykola Oleschuk said.

The Tu-22M3 is a supersonic long-range missile carrier from the Soviet Union, equipped with adjustable wings. Its purpose is to launch cruise missiles and drop bombs on both land and sea targets, including those with nuclear warheads. This technology was developed by the Tupolev Design Bureau and manufactured at the Gorbunov Kazan Aviation Plant. It has been used since 1974 and initially flew on June 20th, 1977. Production of the Tu-22M3 began in 1978 and ended in 1993.

In general, the Tu-22M3 was created for nuclear war. This supersonic bomber was supposed to launch three X-22 supersonic missiles at once from a distance of less than 600 km.

The aircraft armed with the Kh-22 is an anti-ship missile not designed to hit ground targets; its accuracy is low compared to other cruise missiles that hit ground targets.
