Ukraine ammunition delivery under Czech initiative has started – Polish FM

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski says ammunition supply for Ukraine within the Czech initiative has already begun.

The exact delivery dates are not disclosed yet, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Radosław Sikorski, according to Wnp.pl.

"The fact that it (the Czech initiative – ed.) has already received firm promises of support, backed by money, and that transportation is already being organized means that we feel a burden of responsibility to help Ukraine fight the Russian invasion."

Poland "will double its contribution to the Czech initiative to purchase ammunition for Ukraine." However, he refused to name specific amounts and explained this as a "military secret."

"I do not feel authorized to talk about specific amounts."

On February 17, at the Munich Security Conference, Czech President Petr Pavel said that his country had identified 500,000 155 mm and 300,000 122 mm shells that could be delivered within weeks if money was available.

  • Canada, which will allocate $23 million dollars for the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine outside of NATO;
  • The Netherlands will allocate more than 100 million euros;
  • Belgium, which will allocate 200 million euros;
  • Lithuania will join the purchase and transfer of ammunition to Ukraine.
  • France is joining the initiative to purchase ammunition for the Ukrainian forces and to seek funding for the project, as did more countries.

Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky said that 1.5 million rounds of ammunition could be supplied to Ukraine as part of the initiative to purchase artillery.
