Russia’s plans for two new armies face challenges due to lack of equipment and infrastructure issues – British intelligence

The Russian Federation plans to create two new armies this year, but it will face a lack of new equipment and problems with infrastructure.

The Ministry of Defense of Great Britain reported that on the X social network.

As noted in the summary, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu announced on March 20 that in 2024, Moscow will form two new armies.

According to reports, these units will comprise 14 divisions and 16 brigades. These units' specific types, locations, and composition have not been disclosed. Still, they are expected to consist of a mix of mechanized, armored, artillery, and logistics units.

"It is a realistic possibility that these new formations are linked to the previous new units announcements and planned brigade to division uplifts," the message reads.

As noted, it is likely that these units can be sufficiently staffed, given the previous successful efforts of the Russian Federation to recruit people.

"However, given Russia's limited training, widespread use of legacy equipment and infrastructure issues, it is likely that these units will face similar resource problems," British intelligence believes.

For reference:

Moscow plans to continue replenishing the occupiers' ranks. Recently, it was predicted in Britain that Putin intends to call up another 170,000 people for the war against Ukraine.

Putin said that by the end of the year, he will recruit half a million Russians for the war against Ukraine; currently, 617 thousand are fighting.

It is worth adding that according to the statement of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, the losses of the Russian army during more than two years of full-scale invasion of Ukraine amounted to more than 350 thousand soldiers.

According to the Ukrainian General Staff, as of March 19, 2024, the Russian army has suffered a total of over 432,390 soldiers in personnel losses since the full-scale invasion began.

Russia is mobilizing up to 40,000 troops every month to maintain the current pace of war.
