Ukraine's defense ministry to present anti-mine boots for sappers
Ukraine's defense ministry is developing anti-mine shoes for sappers that will reduce the risk of leg injuries during demining.
What is the problem?
In September 2023, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that about 174,000 square kilometers of land remain potentially mined. At the same time, Ukraine's goal is to do this in the coming years.
According to the defense ministry, 287 civilians, including 15 children, were killed by explosive devices, and another 641 people were injured, including 77 minors.
What is the solution?
The defense ministry is developing special anti-explosive boots for sappers that will reduce the risk of leg injuries during demining.
How does it work?
"In fact, these are multilayer boots with Kevlar (ballistic) insoles. The footwear will help to trap the debris in the sole and prevent serious injuries to the sappers. The main task of such footwear is to save the limb," said Deputy Defense Minister Vitalii Polovenko.
Mine-resistant boots must prevent the damaging effect of certain types of anti-personnel explosive devices.
The Central Logistics Development and Support Directorate and the Support Forces Command are conducting tests.
