Estonia announces new Ukraine aid package worth €20 mln
During a visit to Kyiv, Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur said the state would send Ukraine another €20 million military aid package.
After meeting with Ukraine's defense minister Rustem Umerov, he pledged the new package that will include artillery ammunition, anti-tank guns, explosives, gas masks, sniper equipment and smaller caliber ammunition.
"We put together this package with a focus on maximizing the benefits for Ukraine while making sure that it does not reduce Estonia's defense readiness."
The aid package includes 155 mm caliber shells, an additional contribution by Estonia to the EU's initiative to send one million shells to Ukraine.
Estonia's contribution will be partially funded by Denmark, but the exact amount of ammunition is not disclosed for security reasons.
Since the first days of the full-scale war, Estonia has condemned Russian aggression, provided military and financial assistance to Ukraine, and housed thousands of refugees.
In December last year, the government supported the defense minister's initiative to provide Ukraine with a new military aid package worth €80 million.
Estonia's budget for 2024 includes €30 million to support Ukraine.
Foreign Minister Margus Tahkna also supported the initiative to use frozen Russian assets.
