Solutions to win: Ukraine launches mass production of robots to reduce human involvement on battlefield

Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov said that mass production of robotic ground platforms is starting in Ukraine. Brave1 defense cluster has field-tested 50+ complexes.

What is the problem?

As Fedorov explained, the main purpose of ground robots is to reduce human participation on the battlefield to preserve the life and health of Ukrainian military personnel.

"Ground robotic complexes will be the next game changer of this war, which drones already are. This is an asymmetric response to the enemy's numerical superiority," he emphasized.

What is the solution?

More than 50 such robotic complexes were tested at the training ground. In particular, these were kamikaze platforms, turrets, and platforms for destroying positions and equipment, demining, evacuating the wounded, and transporting ammunition.

"The Brave1 cluster is doing everything to scale the production of robots, and the state is beginning to purchase them en masse. The path we took with UAVs, we are taking with robotic platforms. Our task is to produce and improve innovations for the Defense Forces and to create comfortable conditions for manufacturers," Fedorov noted.

How does it work?

The minister noted that the robots successfully proved themselves on the training ground, and in a few months, they will enter the battlefield. According to Fedorov, hundreds of different platforms will be purchased through the UNITED24 fundraising platform.

Fedorov added that more than 140 robotic systems have already been registered on the Brave1 platform, 96 of which have passed defense expertise. In addition, 14 developments are codified according to NATO standards. Some robots, such as the ShaBlya turret, already work at the front.

For reference:

Starting from April 2023, inventor participants of the Brave1 cluster of defense technologies received $3 million in grants for their developments.

Bright examples of the work of this platform:

• In Ukraine, participants of the Brave1 cluster have developed a unique reusable drone bomber called Hummel, which can cover a distance of up to 20 km.
• Demonstration tests of ground robotic systems were conducted in Ukraine. They can be used for medical evacuation at the front.
• The universal robot D-21-11, equipped with an automatic turret and can perform combat tasks, was created by the Brave1 defense cluster members.
• The Ukrainian inventors of the Brave1 cluster have developed the remote-controlled evacuation platform FoxTac, which can transport wounded soldiers from the battlefield. The transporter has successfully passed preliminary tests and is at the stage of codification.
• Ukrainian developers from the Brave1 cluster are creating an innovative technology that consists of demining territories with the help of artificial intelligence.
