Ukraine continues to develop Grain from Ukraine program – Zelensky

President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine will continue developing the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian program.

The head of state wrote about this on X.

"The continued success of our #GrainFromUkraine humanitarian program demonstrates Ukraine's dedication to assisting those in need, even during times of war in our own country. Last week, 7,665 tons of Ukrainian wheat flour arrived in Sudan. This amount is expected to meet the food needs of more than one million Sudanese citizens for one month. In Nigeria, 25,000 tonnes of #GrainFromUkraine recently landed in Port Harcourt to help with increasing food insecurity," the president wrote.

He noted that for more than a year of operation of the program, Ukraine and its partners have delivered the necessary food to several countries, in particular:

• Somalia,
• Ethiopia,
• Kenya,
• Yemen

"We continue developing the program and plan further delivery," Zelenskyy added.

The Grain from Ukraine program was initiated by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. It provides for the purchase of Ukrainian grain by partner countries and its transfer to states suffering from a humanitarian crisis. The program is implemented in partnership with the World Food Program under the auspices of the United Nations.

In 2022, on the 90th anniversary of the start of the Holodomor, Ukraine launched the Grain from Ukraine initiative, within the framework of which, by the middle of 2023, about 60 ships with Ukrainian grain were planned to be sent to the poorest countries in Africa.

Then Austria supported this initiative and allocated €3.8 million to supply Ukrainian grain to needy people in Ethiopia and Sudan.

In addition, Poland also contributed €20 million to the Grain from Ukraine initiative, which is designed to ensure the delivery of Ukrainian grain to African countries.

At the first "Grain from Ukraine" summit, which took place on November 26, 2022, $150 million was collected to help African countries.

Sweden announced the allocation of more than 8 million euros for the initiative, Finland – 2 million euros, and funds for demining agricultural lands in Ukraine.

On November 25, 2023, Latvia also announced its second contribution to the program in the amount of EUR 50,000.

Also, in 2023, Switzerland announced providing over 3 million euros to Ukraine to supply Ukrainian grain to the poorest countries.

In January 2024, Qatar contributed $20 million to the grain from Ukraine's food program.
