Biden to hold meeting with Congress leaders to address Ukraine aid
US President Joe Biden will meet with congressional leaders on Tuesday, February 27. They are to discuss aid to Ukraine and a vote on funding the work of the American government.
The Washington Post reported this.
According to the publication, Biden invited the speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, the leader of the Democrats in the House, Hakeem Jeffries, the leader of the Democrats in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, and the leader of the Republicans, Mitch McConnell for a discussion.
They should discuss the urgency of adopting an aid package for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. In addition, they must discuss legislation that will keep the federal government running until the end of September.
It is worth noting that on March 1, in the USA, funding for the Departments of Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, Agriculture, and Veterans Affairs ends, and on March 8, for the Pentagon, the Ministry of Homeland Security, and the State Department.
For reference:
On February 9, it became known that the US Senate voted to continue consideration of the issue of allocation of funding for Ukraine, Israel, and allies in the Indo-Pacific region over the weekend. 64 senators voted for it, and 19 spoke against it.
Also, the US senators passed a motion on February 13 to end the discussion on the bill regarding assisting Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.
It is worth adding that the speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States Congress, Republican Mike Johnson, criticized the US Senate's bill on aid to Ukraine and Israel for the lack of measures that could stop the record flow of migrants across the US-Mexico border.
However, later, on February 13, the US Senate approved a $95 billion aid bill for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. In particular, more than 60 billion dollars have been earmarked for Ukraine.
In turn, US President Joe Biden decided to meet on February 27 with four leaders of Congress to discuss, in particular, the provision of aid to Ukraine.
