US introduces large-scale sanctions package against Russia

The United States has imposed a significant sanctions package against Russia for its war against Ukraine and the death of Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny.

US President Joe Biden announced over 500 new sanctions, Rubryka reports, citing the White House.

According to him, the sanctions will target individuals associated with Navalny's imprisonment, as well as the Russian financial sector, defense-industrial base, procurement networks, and individuals evading sanctions on multiple continents.

"They will ensure Putin pays an even steeper price for his aggression abroad and repression at home," he stressed.

The United States is also imposing new export restrictions on nearly 100 organizations for "providing covert support to the Russian military machine."

"We are taking action to further reduce Russia's energy revenues. And I've directed my team to strengthen support for civil society, independent media, and those who fight for democracy around the world," Biden said.

As previously reported by Rubryka, on February 23, the European Union adopted the 13th sanctions package against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.
