A Center for rehabilitating women affected by war will be established in Kyiv at the Institute of Pediatrics, Obstetrics, and Gynecology of the National Academy of Sciences.

Ukrinform reported this.

What is the problem?

According to Dr. Vitaliy Tsymbaliuk, President of the National Academy of Sciences and Doctor of Medical Sciences, Ukrainian society's main priority is to fully rehabilitate and adjust those who are battling both medically and socially. However, extending this effort to the civilian population is also crucial. The well-being of the Ukrainian nation is intertwined with women's health, as it is healthy women who bear healthy children.

"And this applies not only to women who take part in hostilities but also to all areas adjacent to the front zone, where people suffer from shelling and stress, so this is one of the most important issues," Tsymbaliuk said.

What is the solution?

The Institute of Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine has extensive experience in the treatment of women's health disorders, including women who suffered from the war, noted the director of the institution, Yuriy Antipkin. Since 2016, specialists of the institute have assisted women in the eastern regions of Ukraine, where the war began. Also, according to him, specialists of the institute observe women who suffered in Irpin, Bucha, women who return from the front.

The mission and goal of the project, as the head of the Board of Trustees of the State Institution "Institute of Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine," Iryna Sysoienko added at the presentation, is the systematic improvement of the condition of patients to preserve the quality of life, independent functioning, restoration of reproductive functions, achievement and support at an optimal level physical, intellectual, psychological and social functions of women.

How does it work?

The new Center will be designed for women who were in captivity, had injuries, military women who were at the front for a long time, and this led to the deterioration of their health, women with impaired reproductive functions, women and teenage girls resettled from temporarily occupied territory.

The Center's areas of work are medical and psychological rehabilitation, neuroendocrine rehabilitation, physical rehabilitation, and reproductive rehabilitation.

In the future, the Center plans to cooperate with the National Health Service in the direction of rehabilitation. At the same time, funding will be provided by the National Academy of Medical Sciences, international donors, and socially responsible businesses.

In general, it is planned to create about 80-100 inpatient beds in the Center based on the Institute of Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and outpatient rehabilitation is also planned. It will be possible to get to the Center by a doctor's referral and self-referral.

Currently, the reconstruction of the premises allocated for the Center is underway. The Institute expects the Center to be fully operational in 6-8 months.
