United to win: 15 partner countries join mine action coalition, signing agreement to assist in Ukraine’s demining

As part of the work of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, 15 partner countries signed the Protocol of Intentions to Create a Mine Action Coalition. In addition, seven more countries are expected to join.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported this.

Together with Lithuania, this Coalition will be headed by Iceland. Its purpose is to consolidate and coordinate efforts to help Ukraine from the participating states in the field of demining. This, in particular, provides for transferring the necessary machinery and equipment to Ukraine and training Ukrainian specialists.

"We are grateful to our partners for their strong support. The occupiers polluted our land with mines. Therefore, our priority is to rid Ukraine of this deadly threat," Defense Minister Rustem Umyerov emphasized.

The demining coalition includes:

• elements of humanitarian demining of territories liberated from the Russian occupiers,
• demining on the line of battle.

As previously reported by Rubryka, the updated concept of the "Demining Coalition" was presented in Vilnius by the Minister of National Defense of the Republic of Lithuania, Arvydas Anushauskas.

According to Arvidas Anushauskas, for the Lithuanian side, implementing this issue is the main priority in assisting Ukraine for 2024-2026. Currently, 22 countries intend to join the anti-mine coalition led by Lithuania.
