Ukraine to receive 1 mln drones from allies in 2024 – NATO chief
NATO members are planning to supply Ukraine with a million drones this year, Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said at a press conference in Brussels.
Previously, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky mentioned the need to produce 1 million drones domestically in 2024.
Following a NATO-Ukraine meeting on February 15, Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov briefed the allies on the situation at the front, and NATO countries emphasized the importance of further support.
Over the past few days, allies, including Canada, Finland, and Norway, have announced new military aid packages for Ukraine, including equipment and spare parts for F-16s and air defense equipment, Stoltenberg said.
"A group of allies is uniting to deliver one million drones to Ukraine. 20 NATO Allies have also agreed to establish a coalition for mine action. All of this will help save Ukrainian lives."
NATO created a coalition of drones to help Ukrainian troops, which was joined by more than 20 countries.
U.K. Defense Secretary Grant Shapps announced London is joining Latvia in leading the "drone coalition" that coordinates supplies for Ukraine. Shapps also pledged thousands more drones to Kyiv, namely first-person view unmanned aerial vehicles.
