Drones strike oil depot in Russia's Kursk, sparking massive fire
Drones attacked an oil depot in the Kursk Oblast, Russia, overnight on February 15, causing a fire.
Ukraine is being blamed for the attack, Rubryka reports.
"A fire broke out at the oil depot due to the attack by a Ukrainian drone in the Kursk district. According to preliminary information, there were no casualties," the governor of the region, Roman Starovoit, initially said.
Starovoit added that all emergency services are working at the scene.
According to the "Baza" Telegram channel, a 100-ton tank was on fire.
"Firefighters are working at the scene. There are no casualties," the post said.
In the morning, the Russian propaganda media "RIA Novosti" reported that three tanks and two partially destroyed tankers were on fire at the oil depot near Kursk.
Starovoit later released a video of the fire being extinguished. He added that fire and rescue units of the EMERCOM of Russia in the Kursk Oblast and the emergency rescue service of the regional security committee are working at the scene.
The official also reported that the spread of the fire had been prevented. Fire trains are being used for extinguishing. There are 165 people and 35 units of equipment working at the scene.
According to sources of the Ukrainian national broadcaster Suspilne, the attack on the "Poleva" oil depot in the Kursk Oblast is a special operation by the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence. Sources said the target had been successfully hit.
Similar attacks on oil bases in Russia
Over the past few weeks, oil bases and oil refineries have been on fire in several regions of Russia. These attacks are attributed to Ukraine's security service.
On February 9, drones of the Security Service of Ukraine attacked two oil refineries in Russia simultaneously — the Ilsk and Afip oil refineries in the Krasnodar Territory.
An airplane-type drone attacked one of the largest Russian oil refineries — the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in Yaroslavl, Russia — on January 29.
On the night of January 25, an oil refinery in Tuapse, Russia, became the next target of Ukraine's Security Service. After two powerful explosions, a massive fire broke out, damaging the primary oil product processing installations.
The attack by Ukrainian drones on January 21 halted the operation of the Novatek plant, located on the coast of the Baltic Sea.
