Ukraine has already allocated ₴20 bln for fortification construction since beginning of the year – PM

Building strong defensive lines is one of the main goals of defense policy. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal emphasized this during the government meeting on February 13.

"From the beginning of 2024, the government allocated UAH 20 billion for fortification from the state budget reserve fund. The additional resource from other sources of financing amounts to UAH 10.7 billion," said Denys Shmyhal.
He noted that the borders are built at the expense of the reserve fund of the state budget, at the expense of local budgets, at the expense of the military personal income tax, and at the expense of charitable funds in a special account of the National Bank of Ukraine.
According to him, the customers of the works are now not only the regions but also the Ministry of Defense, the State Special Service of Transport, and the State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of the Infrastructure of Ukraine.
As the Prime Minister reported, almost UAH 3 billion of the total amount from the reserve fund was directed to the Ministry of Defense and State Special Transport.
More than UAH 16 billion was allocated to regional administrations. In particular, for the construction of fortifications in the Kharkiv region — 3.9 billion UAH, for the Zaporizhzhia region — 1.3 billion UAH, for the Donetsk region — 1.2 billion UAH, for the Kherson region — more than 1.2 billion UAH.
Rubryka previously reported that this year's essential task is strengthening defense capabilities. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal emphasized this. Decisions were made in this direction during the government meeting on January 12. In particular, almost 2.5 billion hryvnias were allocated from the reserve fund for the construction of engineering, technical, and fortification facilities.
To ensure the pace of construction of new defense lines this month, the Cabinet of Ministers [Ukraine's government – ed.] allocated 788.8 million hryvnias from the reserve fund of the state budget. These funds will be used to purchase cars and engineering equipment.
In addition, State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine" increased the material supply to the Armed Forces to construct fortifications.
Ukrainian defenders showed the construction of fortifications in the Chernihiv region.
Also, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted the Resolution developed by the Ministry of Defense, which expanded the list of state bodies that can purchase goods, works, and services to construct military engineering and fortification facilities.
