Russia has inflicted $155 bln in damages on Ukraine's infrastructure since beginning of full-scale war – Kyiv School of Economics
As of January 2024, the amount of direct damage that the Russian Federation caused to the infrastructure of Ukraine during the war reached almost 155 billion dollars.
The Kyiv School of Economics reported that.
As noted, the assessment also takes into account the damage caused to Ukraine due to the Russian occupiers blowing up the Kakhovka HPP in June 2023.
"The increase in the total amount of damage is associated with an increase in the number of damaged and destroyed infrastructure, housing, industry, energy, education and healthcare," the KSE said.
The housing fund remains in the first place regarding the amount of losses. As a result of hostilities and regular shelling, the number of damaged and destroyed residential buildings increases every day.
As of January 2024, there are more than 250,000 such buildings. Of them:
- 222 thousand private houses,
- more than 27 thousand – apartment buildings,
- 526 hostels.
Direct damages from the destruction of these objects are estimated at 58.9 billion dollars. Compared to the report at the end of 2023, this amount increased by $4.8 billion.
"In addition, the increase is caused by the transition to another source of information for some regions (the Register of Damaged and Destroyed Property). Donetsk, Kyiv, Luhansk, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Kherson regions are among the regions where the most destroyed residential buildings were recorded," analysts emphasized.
Damages caused to infrastructure by the beginning of 2024 reach 36.8 billion dollars, and losses to industry and enterprises are already at the level of 13.1 billion dollars. According to the latest data, 78 small, medium, and large private enterprises and 348 state enterprises were destroyed or damaged.
As a result of hostilities, the amount of direct losses from the destroyed infrastructure of the energy sector continues to grow – up to 9 billion dollars, and the agro-industrial complex – 8.7 billion dollars. In addition, as of the beginning of 2024, housing and communal services losses increased by $4.5 billion and health care by another $1.4 billion to $3.1 billion.
"Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, at least 160 thousand units of agricultural machinery, 16 thousand units of communal transport, 3.8 thousand educational institutions, 1.8 thousand cultural institutions, 580 administrative buildings of state and local government, 426 hospitals, 348 religious institutions, 50 administrative services centers, 48 social centers, 31 boarding schools, 31 shopping centers, and other facilities," the Kyiv School of Economics added.
