Solutions from Ukraine: 50 higher education institutions to implement anti-corruption discipline next year
The Integrity Office of the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) intends to involve 50 universities in teaching the discipline "Anti-corruption and integrity" in the next academic year. In December, the piloting of this discipline in 10 universities, which lasted one semester, was successfully completed. The training covered more than 800 students in various courses and specialties.
This topic was covered in the presentation of the pilot project's results.
"We want this discipline to spread and as many higher education institutions as possible to implement it. Our ambitious plan for the next academic year is 50 universities that teach the discipline. The Office of Integrity is developing an online course for educators by which they can prepare. The universities themselves will choose teachers, who will lead this discipline, but the latter will have to go through our training and have the appropriate certificate," said the Integrity Office of NACP.
Pilot students were surveyed before and after taking the course. According to its results, 87% of respondents consider discipline useful.
In addition, all pilot universities implement the discipline in their curricula, and some, for example, Kyiv Polytechnic Institute named after Ihor Sikorsky and the National Medical University named after O.O. Bohomolets, continue its teaching already in the current semester.
"From September, the discipline "Anti-corruption and integrity" will become mandatory for masters of the Faculty of Law of our university, students' success will be evaluated on the exam," said the rector of the Chernivtsi National University named after Yuriy Fedkovych, Roman Petryshyn.

As a reminder, Ukraine received 36 points out of a possible 100 in the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) for 2023, and now our country ranks 104th among 180 countries. Ukraine's growth by 3 points is one of the world's best results for the past year.
It should be noted that Ukraine demonstrated one of the best results in the world in the 2023 "Corruption Perception Index" compiled by Transparency International.
The second wave of the sociological survey shows that, according to the citizens of Ukraine, corruption and war remain the country's main problems. Moreover, corruption in matters of future recovery worries the population even more than the repetition of military actions.
