Ukraine to establish nationwide production of electronic warfare systems

Ukraine has ambitions to transfer the production of electronic warfare equipment to the market, following the example of drones, the digital minister Mykhailo Fedorov says.

What is the problem?

FPV drones have the highest efficiency-to-price ratio and their production can be quickly scaled up to very large scale due to the low cost and simplicity of the technology.

The threat of massive attacks by locally made FPV drones is only gaining momentum and is already a serious threat. They are being actively used by the military on both sides of the contact line.

Back in November last year, Fedorov said that Ukraine would have a "Robot Army" and an "Army of Electronic Warfare".

There is currently no off-the-shelf security solution that can be produced on the same scale and at the same speed as drones.

What is the solution?

Ukraine has ambitions to transfer the production of electronic warfare equipment to the market, following the example of drones.

How does it work?

Electronic warfare equipment will be delivered to the troops faster, as their acceptance for use will be based on a joint departmental test report or on the results of studying the declared tactical and technical characteristics.

Based on the results of the campaign, manufacturers will compete with each other for contracts with the Ministry of Defense.

Ukrainian ministry has already begun active contracting for electronic warfare. Fedorov also added that a separate electronic warfare brigade may be created.

The Air Force spokesman Yurii Ihnat said that local communities can purchase electronic warfare equipment from civilian manufacturers to counter enemy missiles and drones.
