One checkpoint unblocked on Poland-Ukraine border
Polish farmers ended a protest on the Ukraine border at the Shehyni-Medica checkpoint, State Border Guard Service reports.
Truck traffic at the Shehyni-Medyka checkpoint has now resumed. There are currently 220 vehicles in line to enter Ukraine.
As of the morning of February 10, queues of more than a thousand trucks had formed at three checkpoints on the border with Poland, including Shehynia-Medyka. The blockade of cargo transportation has also hampered the movement of cars and buses.
On November 6 last year, Polish carriers went on strike at the border with Ukraine, demanding the return of the EU pass system for Ukrainian carriers.
On January 17, 2024, the government signed an agreement with the carriers to unblock the border with Ukraine.
The parties agreed to suspend protests at the entrances to the three border crossing points until March 1.
On January 31, the EU Commission recommended extending the abolition of import duties on agricultural goods from Ukraine until 2024. Polish farmers immediately stated that they did not support the EU's actions.
