Ukrainian drones strike two oil refinery plants in Russia

Ukrainian Security Service drones attacked two oil refineries in Russia. 

The targets were the Ilsk and Afip oil refineries in the Krasnodar region, Rubryka reports, referring to RBC-Ukraine, citing its own sources.

According to the sources, a large fire broke out at the Ilsk refinery, damaging a primary processing unit with a capacity of 3.6 million tons annually. Without it, the Russians won't be able to produce diesel fuel for military needs. The estimated cost of such a unit is around $50 million.

The drones also reportedly struck the Afip refinery, but the extent of the damage is currently being clarified.

Both facilities are located approximately 20 kilometers apart. Local sources reported that Russians were even forced to deploy aircraft into the sky, but it did not help protect the crucial refineries.

"These refineries are legitimate targets. They not only serve defense purposes and supply fuel for Russian forces but are also important for the Russian economy. Because Russia is a Goliath standing on oil legs. We systematically undermine them. And we will continue to do so until Goliath falls," said an informed source.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that on the night of February 9, it allegedly intercepted and destroyed 19 Ukrainian drones in four regions of Russia and over the Black Sea. The Ilsk oil refinery In the Siversky district of the Krasnodar region was reportedly on fire due to a drone attack.

Similar attacks on Russian oil facilities

Explosions regularly occur on Russian territory, and some of them are associated with drone attacks. For example, on January 29, a drone of an aircraft type attacked one of Russia's largest oil refineries, the Slavneft-YANOS refinery in Yaroslavl, Russia.

On the night of January 25, a Ukrainian drone attack targeted an oil refinery in Tuapse, Russia. After two powerful explosions, a massive fire broke out, damaging primary oil processing units, specifically vacuum and atmospheric columns.

The attack by Ukrainian drones on January 21 halted the operation of the Novatek plant, located on the coast of the Baltic Sea.

On the night of January 18, Ukrainian drones struck an oil base in the Leningrad Oblast, Russia: this attack was a special operation of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense.

On January 9, in the city of Oryol, Russia, drones attacked an oil base and power plant. Explosions were also heard in the Kursk Oblast.

Also, on December 5, Russians claimed to have intercepted and destroyed over 40 allegedly Ukrainian drones over the territory of the Russian Federation. Ukrainian drones struck the "Marine Oil Terminal" in the occupied Feodosia.
