It is expected that over 30 Ukrainian companies will participate, Rubryka reports, citing Nikkei Asia.
During the conference, Japanese companies and organizations from the private and public sectors are likely to sign memorandums of understanding with their Ukrainian counterparts.
Implementation of projects could begin as early as this year, primarily in Ukraine's west.
A delegation of Ukrainian companies will also take part in a bilateral business exchange forum, which will be held the next day by the Chambers of Commerce of Ukraine, Japan, and Tokyo. The Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry organizes the visit.
Potential areas of cooperation include energy, infrastructure, and agriculture to increase investments in Ukraine.
The CEO of Ukraine's largest private energy company, DTEK, Maksym Timchenko, stated in an interview with Nikkei Asia that the company is discussing with Japanese partners:
Thanks to investments in solar and wind energy, DTEK's total renewable generation capacity has reached 1,900 megawatts, equivalent to the energy consumption of the Kyiv region.
According to Timchenko, "in times of war, it is much safer to build more decentralized electricity generation," such as solar and wind power plants, than large power plants running on fossil fuels. The latter are more vulnerable to military attacks, he added.
Timchenko expressed hope that during the visit to Tokyo, there would be "very concrete discussions with Japanese companies, banks, and institutions."
As a reminder, the first conference took place in late April 2023 in the Italian capital, Rome, and was attended by representatives of over 150 domestic companies.
They met directly with Italian businessmen, discussed cooperation opportunities in many areas, and even concluded some contracts.
Also, on June 21–22, the second Ukraine Recovery Conference took place in London. During a virtual speech, President Zelensky outlined five main principles, including unity, stability, development, security, and democracy, which will form the basis for the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, made possible with international support.
The next reconstruction conference will be held in Tokyo, Japan, with the participation of the prime ministers of both countries, on February 19–20, 2024.
As reported, in the Japanese capital, Tokyo, on February 19-20, approximately 200 Japanese and Ukrainian companies are expected to participate in the Ukraine Recovery Conference.
