Ukrainian football club “Shakhtar” forms team of amputee soldiers

"Shakhtar" football club will create a football team for people with disabilities. The members of the team will be the soldiers of Ukraine's armed forces who were wounded during the hostilities and, as a result, had their limbs amputated.

This was reported on the Ukrainian club website.

What is the problem?

According to the general director of the club, Serhii Palkin, there are more than 50,000 Ukrainian service members with amputations in Ukraine. Adaptive sports will ensure the process of rehabilitation of veterans.

What is the solution?

"Shakhtar" FC is set to establish a team specifically for individuals with disabilities. These team members will be former Ukrainian soldiers who sustained injuries during combat, resulting in amputation of their limbs.

The club intends to create all conditions for these people to integrate and return, if possible, to an active life.

How does it work?

"Ukrainian soldiers, who sacrificed their health while protecting the country from the enemy, today need the support of society more than anyone. "Shakhtar" is the first Ukraine's Premier League club to create a team for soldiers with amputations. When organizing a new team, we will rely on the international practice of adaptive football," Serhii Palkin noted.

In the first stage, "Shakhtar" plans to recruit 20 players and a coach to conduct regular training in Kyiv and the region.

The recruitment of football players and the training of coaches will begin soon.

In the future, the team is expected to participate in competitions, including European ones.

For reference:

As a reminder, the Trenvet UA mobile application presentation, which helps veterans and military personnel receive free sports rehabilitation, took place in the Rivne region. The application was developed by the public organizations "Strongman Federation of Ukraine" and "Victory of the Invincibles" with the support of the Ukrainian Veterans Fund.

Furthermore, a cutting-edge rehabilitation center for injured military personnel called Recovery has been inaugurated in Rivne. With the use of state-of-the-art technologies, the center's interdisciplinary team will be able to offer top-notch free rehabilitation services to over 1,000 service members annually.
