Russian shelling kills four people in Kherson
On the morning of February 5, the Russian army shelled the southern city of Kherson from the temporarily occupied left bank of the Dnipro River. Four people were killed in the attack, according to Ukraine's interior ministry.
The Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office stated that a pre-trial investigation had been initiated in a "criminal case regarding the violation of laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder," Rubryka reports.
According to the investigation, on February 5, the Russians once again shelled Kherson with artillery.
Roman Mrochko, the head of the Kherson City Military Administration, stated that Russian occupying forces shelled Kherson today after 12:00 p.m.
The Russian shells hit the city center, causing a fire. Two men's bodies were found at the scene by rescuers. Mrochko added that the information is currently being clarified.
One person was also injured as a result of the shelling and is receiving medical treatment.
Law enforcement officials reported that after the artillery shelling, a car caught fire due to the explosion of shells. After extinguishing the fire, the bodies of two deceased individuals were found inside.
Law enforcement agencies have opened a criminal case for the violation of laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Investigators are currently documenting war crimes by the Russian Federation.
Later, it became known that the number of casualties from the shelling of Kherson increased to three — it was also reported about a woman who got under Russian fire while on the street.
"Three victims — men aged 45 and 50, who were in the car, and a woman who was on the street during the enemy strike!" Mrochko said.
Later, the Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed that the Russian shelling killed four civilians.
According to the South Operational Command, during the past day, the Russians carried out 36 shelling attacks on the right bank of the Kherson region, firing 132 shells from various weapons. 32 shells were directed at the city of Kherson.
Russian military targeted residential quarters of populated areas in the region, as well as a museum in Kherson. Due to Russian aggression, one person was injured yesterday.
Situation on the left bank of the Kherson region
Last autumn, it became known that Ukrainian soldiers were stationed on the left bank of the Kherson region, namely in the area of the settlement of Krynky.
The head of the Unified Press Center of the South Operational Command, Natalia Humeniuk, reported that the Ukrainian soldiers are actively operating on the left bank of the Dnipro River on the Kherson front.
In turn, the General Staff explained that the Armed Forces of Ukraine wanted to push Russian occupiers away from the right bank of the Dnipro River to reduce the shelling of civilians.
Military experts suggest that the offensive capabilities of the Russian troops on the left bank of the Kherson region are limited. The reason is the weak training and coordination of the Russian occupiers.
