Borrell schedules visit to Ukraine for upcoming plans
Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, announced that he will visit Ukraine.
According to Rubryka, the head of the European Union's diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said this at a press conference with the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Radoslaw Sikorski.
As Borrell said, he is now "on the way to Kyiv," but he did not specify the details of when he will be in Ukraine. The diplomat will probably arrive in Kyiv on Tuesday, February 6.
In addition, Borrell reminded that the EU should continue to support Ukraine by all possible means, particularly by increasing the ammunition supply.
As Rubryka previously reported, in Brussels, during a press conference following the results of an informal meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs of the European Union, Borrell said:
"Today, there was a meaningful discussion about military aid for Ukraine, our unity, and a peaceful future for Ukraine and its people. We discussed the situation on the battlefield, the situation with military supplies, the creation of an aid fund for Ukraine, which, I hope, will be agreed upon within the next few days within the framework of the European Peace Fund," said the high representative of the EU.
He believes Ukraine's victory is critically essential for European peace and stability.
The EU already provides military aid to Ukraine through the European Peace Fund (in particular, it compensates the costs of member countries for weapons provided to Ukraine). Still, it is carried out through tranches that individual member states can block.
In addition, the European Union is moving from providing weapons to Ukraine from existing stockpiles to purchasing new ones, so the EU's foreign policy department presented the member states with a proposal to reform the funds that provide this military support.
On February 1, 2024, during his address to the European Council, President Volodymyr Zelensky urged the leaders of the EU to establish a separate mechanism within the European Peace Fund specifically for providing military support to Ukrainian forces.
