Russian forces massively shell Kherson by night: severe destruction reported

Last night, the city of Kherson came under heavy fire from Russian forces. 

Local authorities showed the aftermath of the overnight attack on the city in a video, revealing significant damage, Rubryka reports.

"The video shows the horrifying aftermath of a hellish night in Kherson," the post of the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, said.

The city was subjected to heavy shelling by the Russian army. The bombardment lasted for more than an hour. Once again, residential areas became the usual targets for the enemy.

Prokudin stressed that while high-rise buildings miraculously endured the assault, there are serious damages. The head of the administration also informed that no people were injured.

According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, rescuers in Kherson cleared debris and freed two people trapped under the rubble due to the Russian overnight shelling. The saved residents were unharmed. 

A government building and a residential house caught fire due to the impact. The fires were extinguished by morning.

Kherson experienced a partial power outage due to the overnight shelling, and trolleybuses cannot operate their routes.

"We inform you that the city has a partial power outage due to enemy shelling overnight. As a result, it is currently impossible to put trolleybuses into operation," said Roman Mrochko, the head of the Kherson City Military Administration.

Emergency crews are already working on restoring the power lines, he added.

"After the damage is repaired, 21 trolleybuses will resume service, and we will provide additional information," the head of the administration stressed.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy reports that due to shelling on January 31 and during the night of February 1, nearly 70,000 consumers in Kherson were left without electricity.

"Nearly 70,000 metering points in Kherson were left without power after yesterday's and today's overnight shelling. Overhead lines were damaged, and substations were disconnected," the statement said.

Overall, due to combat actions in Kherson, 73,000 consumers are without power.

Situation in the Kherson region

Mrochko also reported that over the past day, Russian forces shelled populated areas of the Kherson city territorial community 23 times and used 106 shells. Damage was recorded in Kherson, the villages of Sadove, Prydniprovske, Antonivka, and Inzhenerne. One man sustained moderate injuries. He received medical assistance.

Overall, over the past day, the Russian army shelled the Kherson region 41 times, injuring six people.

In reality news, yesterday evening, January 31, explosions were heard in Kharkiv. Local authorities reported that Russian attacks hit civilian infrastructure in the Osnovianskyi district of the city. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

Last night, Russians also dropped bombs on a hospital in the Kupiansk district of the Kharkiv region. With the help of police and the State Emergency Service, 38 people were evacuated from the hospital, including 33 patients, two of whom were bedridden, and five staff members. As a result of the shelling, four people were injured. Ukrainian anti-aircraft defense forces destroyed two attack drones.

On February 1, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian territory using kamikaze drones. Since the beginning of the year, Russia has launched over 330 rockets and nearly 600 combat drones into Ukrainian cities, making control over Ukrainian airspace extremely important.
