Kyiv region opened doors of the dormitory in Mykhailivka-Rubezhivka for 19 families who lost their homes during the Russian invasion, Suspilne reports.
What is the problem?
Thousands of residential and infrastructure facilities were destroyed by the 2022 Russian invaders. Millions of people have been left homeless, yet communities continue to look for new solutions to provide shelter for IDPs and actively cooperate with caring people.

What is the solution?
The Housing for IDPs initiative with the Irpin City Council implemented the project.
"There are comfortable and small apartments of 35-36 m² with high-quality repairs. There are ready-made toilets and a kitchen," said Olga Yaroshenko, president of the Housing for IDPs charity.
The main funds for the renovation were provided by the Polish company Dom Development and the international community JCI Ukraine. The project was also financially supported by JCI LIER VZW, JCI NEDERLAND, JCI Japan, Koenig Immobilien GmbH, CBRE Ukraine, Postcode Ukraine, and Agromat Ukraine.

How does it work?
53 residents from 19 families will live here. The IDPs are large families, and some are teachers, gas station operators, firefighters, utility truck drivers, social workers, and doctors.

The ground floor was made accessible for people with disabilities, and one of the apartments is fully equipped for a person in a wheelchair.
"The commission considered all applications, taking into account the priority and priority. The community will pay for the utility bills or the region will help," said Ruslan Kravchenko, head of the Kyiv administration.
The entire dormitory project cost $720,000, most of which was allocated by a Polish construction company. The facade has a mural symbolizing tight relations between the two countries.
