Russian troops tried to break through Ukrainian defense near Avdiivka 37 times – General Staff

During the past day, January 30, Russian aggressors were most active in attacking the Avdiivka, Mariupol, and Kherson fronts.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 88 combat engagements occurred on the front lines, Rubryka reports.

Successes of Ukrainian military forces

According to the military command, Ukrainian aviation conducted strikes in 11 areas of concentration of Russian troops, weapons, and military equipment, as well as on two anti-aircraft missile systems of the occupiers.

Missile units struck one area of concentration of Russian personnel and military equipment, two ammunition depots, nine artillery systems, and one Russian radar station.

Russian army's attacks

"The Russians launched nine missile strikes and 99 air strikes, carried out 129 shelling attacks with multiple rocket launching systems on the positions of Ukrainian forces and civilian towns, and used 20 'Shahed' drones overnight, 14 of which were successfully destroyed," the General Staff reported.

Aerial strikes were carried out on the northern towns of Leonivka in the Chernihiv region, Popivka in the Sumy region, and Ustynivka in the Kharkiv region. 

The Russians also attacked the eastern villages of Novoiehorivka, Nevske, and Serebrianske Forestry in the Luhansk region and the eastern towns of Terny, Kolodiazi, Klishchiivka, Kostiantynivka, Oleksandrivka, Ocheretyne, Novobakhmutivka, Berdychiv, Orlivka, Avdiivka, Tonenke, Heorhiivka, Novomykhailivka, Staromaiorsk, Rivnopil in Donetsk region.

In the south and southeast, Mala Tokmachka, Robotyne, Orikhiv in the Zaporizhzhia region, and Kachkarivka, Chervonyi Mayak, and Tiahynka in the Kherson region were under Russian attacks,

Over 100 settlements in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions were under artillery fire.

Situation on the front lines

The operational situation remains unchanged in the area of responsibility of the "North" Operational and Strategic Grouping on the northwestern fronts.

On the northern and northeastern fronts, the Russian forces maintain a military presence in border areas, conduct active sabotage activities to prevent the transfer of Ukrainian troops to threatening directions, and increase the density of mine-explosive barriers along the state border in the Belgorod Oblast, Russia.

On the Kupiansk front, in the area of responsibility of the "Khortytsia"   Operational and Strategic Grouping, Ukrainian defenders repelled five enemy attacks near Synkivka in the Kharkiv region.

On the Lyman front, Ukrainian soldiers repelled seven Russian attacks in the areas of Terniv and Yamvolivka in the Donetsk region.

On the Bakhmut front, Ukraine's Defense Forces repelled six enemy attacks near Bohdanivka and Klishchiivka in the Donetsk region.

In the area of responsibility of the "Tavria" Operational and Strategic Grouping, Ukrainian defenders continue to hold back the enemy, who does not stop trying to surround Avdiivka. During the past day, the Ukrainian forces repelled 26 Russian attacks in the area of Avdiivka and another 11 attacks near Pervomaiske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region.

On the Mariupol front, Ukrainian soldiers continued to hold back the Russians near Heorhiivka, Pobieda, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where 16 attacks were repelled.

In the area of responsibility of the "Odesa" Operational and Strategic Grouping on the Kherson front, the Ukrainian forces continue to hold positions and repel assaults by Russian occupation forces. Despite losses, the occupiers do not cease attempts to dislodge Ukrainian units from their positions. During the past day, the Russians carried out 15 unsuccessful assault actions.

On the night of January 31, Russian occupiers launched 20 drones and three ballistic missiles at Ukraine; the air defense forces downed 14 drones.
