Massive Internet outage plagues Russia

In Russia, the Internet experienced a significant outage where users encountered difficulties accessing websites with the ".ru" domain.

According to the Downdetector project, numerous complaints about site failures involving Yandex resources, Tinkoff applications, VTB, Avito, Wildberries, Ozon, and other sites have been reported.

It is noted that European users cannot access sites with the ".ru" domain either.

The "Durov's Kod" portal reported that the failure occurred due to problems with DNSSEC. It is a set of extensions to the DNS protocol that should guarantee the reliability and integrity of data. The Coordination Center for domains ".ru" and ".рф" confirmed this information.

"Specialists of the Internet Technical Center and MSK-IX are working on its elimination. The problem has been solved for the National system of domain name subscribers. Restoration work is underway," the center's official statement said.

The Network Freedom Project suggests that the failure may be related to experiments in creating a national domain name server (DNS – Domain Name Server). DNS, in turn, is protected by the digital signature DNSSEC from being replaced by fraudsters. Network Freedom writes that the Russian authorities planned to transfer all users of the country to the national DNS server; perhaps this is happening now.
