American inspectors arrive in Kyiv for oversight of aid supplied to Ukraine

Today, January 29, inspectors general from the Pentagon, the US State Department, and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) arrived in the Ukrainian capital.

Bridget Brink, the US Ambassador to Ukraine, reported this.

"The Council is pleased to welcome three inspectors general to Kyiv once again… Their meetings with implementers, partners, and the Ukrainian government will contribute to strengthening oversight and accountability of US assistance to Ukraine," she said.

Last year, the Pentagon created a new team to monitor security aid to Ukraine amid calls from Republicans to tighten oversight of how Kyiv uses the money.

A high-ranking US representative began working in Ukraine at the end of August 2023, and in September, additional personnel based at the US Embassy in Kyiv were sent.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced that it initiated the concept of self-reporting by the partner country on the end use of aid as early as autumn 2023. A plan for joint physical examinations for the first half of 2024 has already been agreed.

Thus, in January 2024, the Internal Audit Service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, representatives of Ukraine's armed forces, and representatives of the US Embassy jointly conducted an inspection of weapons and property provided by American partners in one of the military units.

At the 18th meeting in the Rammstein format, the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, confirmed that the US "has not seen any real evidence" of misuse or illegal diversion of American equipment sent to Ukraine. Currently, the United States continues to work on monitoring and reporting on American security assistance.

"We see that Ukraine is using the capabilities provided by us to defend against Russian aggression," Lloyd Austin emphasized.

According to him, the United States continues to work hard on monitoring and reporting on US security assistance provided to Ukraine.

He also stressed that Allies must continue to focus on both Ukraine's immediate needs on the battlefield and long-term assistance to support and modernize Ukraine's Defense Forces.
