Russian rocket strike Kherson: kindergarten, shopping center, apartments damaged

Russian forces attacked the southern city of Kherson overnight on January 26.

Occupiers launched missiles at the city from an S-300 surface-to-air missile system, causing destruction and injuries, Rubryka reports, citing local authorities.

According to the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, the Russian troops conducted two missile strikes that night.

The attack damaged a kindergarten, a multi-story residential building, and a shopping center.

During the missile strike, a 54-year-old resident of Kherson was injured in her own home. She suffered leg injuries and blast trauma. Medical assistance was provided to her on the spot.

Situation in Kherson and the region

In the fall of 2022, Ukrainian defenders launched a counteroffensive in the south of the country. The Armed Forces of Ukraine managed to liberate the right-bank part of the Kherson region from Russian forces. The major city of Kherson returned under Ukraine's control. The city was one of the regional centers the Russians occupied from February to March 2022.

Currently, Kherson and the region are under constant shelling by the Russian forces. Occupiers are attacking residential areas with heavy weapons and drones.

In the past day, Russian occupiers carried out 73 shelling attacks on the Kherson region, firing 350 shells using mortars, artillery, multiple rocket launchers, tanks, and UAVs.

According to Prokudin, the Russians launched a missile strike on Kherson, using ballistic missiles, and directed 26 shells towards the city.

As the head of the region said, the Russian military also targeted a cellular tower in the Berislavy district.

"Due to Russian aggression, one person was killed, and another was injured,"  Prokudin added.

On January 19, Russians attacked residential buildings in the Dnipro district of Kherson. During this shelling, a four-story building was damaged. In one of the apartments, rescuers found the body of a woman. The deceased was about 50 years old.
