"Quality education is not only for big cities": Ukraine unveils courses for teachers from remote towns
The educational and cultural networks Goncharenko Center and Lions Quest are launching free training sessions for teachers from remote towns in Ukraine.
At the pilot stage, educators from villages and small towns in the southern Odesa region are invited to join the project, Rubryka reports.
What's the problem?
Students living in small towns and villages in Ukraine often have fewer opportunities for self-realization, and the quality of education in their schools remains low.
According to the results of the PISA-2022 study, students from rural areas lag behind their peers from large cities by several years. There is a need to introduce qualitatively new approaches to teaching and improve teachers' professional competencies.
What's the solution?
The solution was found in the all-Ukrainian network of Goncharenko Centers. They are launching a series of free training sessions together with the international organization Lions Quest.
"Residents of communities have repeatedly asked us to conduct training for educators. We decided to introduce schools in the Odesa region to the Lions Quest international program, which has been implemented in 98 countries worldwide for 30 years," said Oleksandr Taraniuk, director of the Goncharenko Center.
How does it work?
The training will last two days and be conducted by the Institute of Social and Emotional Education.
When completing the training, teachers will receive a certificate for 1 ECTS credit, equivalent to 30 academic hours.
All project participants will be provided with the Lions Quest educational and methodological complex, which will help develop students' personal and social competencies.
At this program stage, organizers note that training sessions are being launched in Podilsk and the Kuialnyk territorial communities in the Odesa region.
"We are studying the requests of other communities in the Odesa region, so we plan to expand the scale of training sessions very soon," said the organization. "Their methods allow educators to grow professionally based on the latest world research, achievements, and developments. We believe that we will be able to bring education in small towns and villages to a new level."
