Ukraine proposes 50-year ban on transport links with Russia

The Cabinet of Ministers [Ukraine's government – ed.] will submit proposals for a 50-year ban on any transport connection with Russia — by road, rail, air, and sea — for consideration by the National Security and Defense Council.

This is stated in the order of the government dated January 19.

According to the document, it is proposed:

  • to introduce a ban on direct air traffic with Ukraine, as well as the use of Ukrainian airspace for all types of direct and transit flights of aircraft owned by legal entities from Russia;
  • to introduce a ban on the entry into Ukraine of motor vehicles (buses, trucks with or without trailers and semi-trailers) registered on the territory of Russia;
  • to ban the entry of railway vehicles (such as cars, locomotives, and motorized transport) from Russia into Ukraine's customs territory under any customs regulations for individuals associated with Russia.

In addition, the document provides for the introduction of a ban on sailing in the internal waters of Ukraine and entering the seaports of Ukraine for:

  • vessels under the flag of Russia;
  • ships owned/shipped by citizens of Russia, legal entities registered on the territory of the aggressor country;
  • vessels entering the ports located in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

The Cabinet of Ministers also proposes not to recognize seamen's documents issued by Russia in the occupied territories and to ban Russians from working on Ukrainian vessels.

It is noted that specific developments and proposals will be developed within ten days by the law "On Sanctions."
