On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, the Ukrainian Saturday School in Tunis, a local center of Ukrainian culture and education, opened a library for children.

What is the problem?

Despite the fact that reading as a leisure activity for children is stands less popular than playing games and socializing with friends, the share of Ukrainian children who read books has increased in all segments.

An important number of children's reading is the decrease in the share of children who never read for leisure: from 18% to 15%.

If the family lives in another country, children have limited access to Ukrainian books. Outside of their home country, kids won't always find Ukrainian-language literature in bookstores, let alone children's books. And if you do, it is not cheap.

What is the solution?

A Ukrainian library for children was opened at the Saturday School in Tunisia, known is a local center of Ukrainian culture and education.

How does it work?

opening of the library was meaningful and emotional, as it demonstrates the great interest of children and adults in Ukrainian literature. This cultural institution is also very much needed by Ukrainians. And it is not only reading books, but also interesting meetings and joint work of children and adults," the embassy said.

"Currently, our library has only up to a hundred books published in Ukrainian. All of them were donated by Ukrainians who are not indifferent to this necessary cause.
The library received a wonderful gift from Ms. Natalia Konayeva. Now every reader will have bookmarks embroidered by her."
