Rising Russian shelling leaves more children wounded in Ukraine – Prosecutor General’s Office

Since Russia launched its full-scale war against Ukraine, nearly 1,716 children have been impacted, with 520 minors losing their lives and over 1,196 sustaining injuries of varying severity.

The Office of the Prosecutor General reported that.

As noted by the prosecutor's office, as of January 20, 2023, at least 1,716 children have been affected.

According to the official information of juvenile prosecutors, the official number of children who died is 520.

The number of victims in the war also increased, namely 1,196 minors who received injuries of varying degrees of severity.

Juvenile prosecutors emphasize that these numbers are not final, as work is ongoing to establish them in places of active hostilities, in temporarily occupied and liberated territories.

As of January 20, the Prosecutor General's Office reported that children were most affected in the following regions:

• Donetsk region – 504,
• Kharkiv region – 315,
• Kyiv region – 130,
• Mykolaiv region – 101,
• Chernihiv region – 72,
• Luhansk region- 67,
• Kherson region – 146,
• Zaporizhzhia region – 100,
• Dnipropetrovsk region- 111.

The latest discovered facts of crimes against children:

• On January 15, as a result of enemy shelling of the village of Dniprovske, Mykolaiv district, Mykolaiv region, two girls aged 12 and 14 were injured;
• On January 17, as a result of enemy shelling, a 10-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl were wounded in Maly Burluk, Kupiansk district, Kharkiv region;
• On January 19, a 16-year-old boy was injured as a result of shelling by Russian troops in the city of Kherson.

As of October 18, juvenile prosecutors emphasize that they have already found 19,256 children. The prosecutor's office considers 1,497 minors to be missing.

In addition, 13 children suffered from sexual violence.

The department also emphasized that 19,546 children were deported to Russia and the so-called republics, of which only 386 minors were returned home.
