Solutions to win: Ukrainian engineers create armor-piercing ammunition for FPV drones

Armor-piercing ammunition for FPV drones was developed in Ukraine. This weapon is effective against light armored vehicles (self-propelled guns, armored personnel carriers, armored personnel carriers), which are protected by anti-accumulative and anti-drone means.

What is the problem?

To avoid significant losses among service members as a result of hostilities, the Ukrainian military actively uses the latest technologies, in particular, FPV drones.

Despite this, there is a challenge in the form of anti-cumulative and anti-drone protection equipment, which makes it difficult to conduct effective remote combat and emphasizes the need for constant development of military equipment for effective confrontation in modern war conditions.

What is the solution?

Ukrainian engineers have developed armor-piercing ammunition EFP-S for FPV drones to destroy armored vehicles.

How does it work?

This weapon is effective against lightly armored vehicles, such as self-propelled guns and armored personnel carriers, that are shielded by anti–accumulative and anti-drone defenses.

The new EFP-S ammunition boasts a "shock core" in its combat capabilities, delivering a potent anti–armor punch and a significant remote damage range.

Ammunition characteristics:

• Weight of the attack element: 165 g;
• Speed of the striking element: 1800 m/s;
• Radius of effective defeat: 8 meters.

EFP-S ammunition consists of:

• the removable part of the case;
• screws for fastening the removable part;
• cap for fixing the detonator;
• adapter for attaching to the drone frame;
• sight for checking the course camera;
• rubber lining.

The structure is attached to the FPV drone using nylon clamps.

It should be noted that the Ministry of Defense allowed the domestic KH-S7 FPV attack drone to be used in Ukraine's armed forces.

It was also reported that the Ministry of Defense conducted tests of Ukrainian unmanned aerial systems. Drones from six manufacturers were tested, mostly FPV drones designed and manufactured by private companies.

In addition, Deputy Prime Minister for Innovation, Development of Education, Science and Technology, Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov urged Ukrainians to join the project of assembling FPV drones at home.

"During the full-scale war, the government changed the policy for drone manufacturers, removing the blockers and creating conditions for them. This started mass production. That's why I said a realistic goal is a million FPV drones a year.

Now production is developing, and while the companies are gaining momentum, everyone can personally move Ukraine to victory, even in the rear," Fedorov noted.
