Switzerland grants Ukraine €1.6 bln in aid

During a joint press conference with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, the country's president, Viola Amherd, announced that Switzerland will provide Ukraine with 1.5 billion francs (about 1.6 billion euros) in aid from 2025 to 2028.

"Switzerland sees a special focus on the reconstruction of Ukraine. From the point of view of the Federal Council, reconstruction is of strategic importance for the stability of the continent," she said.

According to her, the Lugano principles laid down at the conference on restoring Ukraine in July 2022 serve as a political compass for reconstruction.

"In support of Ukraine, Switzerland has planned 1.5 billion francs for the period of the next international cooperation strategy from 2025 to 2028," the Swiss president said.

As already reported, from tomorrow, January 16, Ukraine and Switzerland will begin preparations for the Global Peace Summit at the level of the leaders of the states, which the Swiss authorities are ready to host in the country.

On January 14, the fourth meeting of national security advisers and political advisers took place in the Swiss city of Davos with the participation of the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak.

Representatives of 81 countries and international organizations took part in the event. Although it received an invitation and had a large delegation in Davos, China ignored the meeting. It should be noted that at the previous meeting, which took place in Malta, there were 66 participants.

At the meeting, five points of the Ukrainian peace formula were considered, namely:

• withdrawal of Russian troops,
• restoration of justice,
• ecological safety,
• preventing the escalation and recurrence of war,
• confirmation of the end of the war.

On January 14, a meeting of leading diplomats took place in Davos to prepare the ground for a peace plan to settle the war in Ukraine.

In particular, the following representative spoke on behalf of Ukraine:

• Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov,
• ombudsman Dmytro Lubynets.

In addition, today, January 15, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, started a working visit to Switzerland. He will address the forum with a special speech on the panel, "Achieving security and cooperation in a fragmented world".
