UK pledges $3.2 bln increase in military aid for Ukraine
The UK has increased military aid to Ukraine to 2.5 billion pounds, PM Rishi Sunak announced during his visit to Kyiv.
The aid already provided by London will last until the beginning of this year.
"We are one of the most significant supporters of Ukraine, especially when it comes to military assistance. I am pleased to be here today to announce an increase in the assistance we are providing."
The increase in military aid demonstrates the seriousness of the situation and Britain's determination to support Ukraine.
"And that is why I am here on my first foreign visit of the year, the first foreign leader to visit Ukraine this year."
This is UK's largest defense aid package since the beginning of the war that include thousands of shells, missiles, and training for the Ukrainian military. 200 million pounds will be allocated for new drones.
UK aid for Ukraine
The UK was one of the first countries to support Ukraine at the beginning of Russia's full-scale war. London provided military, financial, and humanitarian support, including the transfer of Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine, long-range Storm Shadow missiles, and training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets.
After a large-scale Russian attack on January 29, the UK Ministry of Defense agreed to transfer a new batch of missiles to Ukraine for air defense systems.
