Russian spy detained for travelling 100 km a day to detect Ukrainian positions in Avdiivka

Ukraine's Security Service has unmasked another FSB spy who was reconnoitering the deployment and movement of Ukrainian forces in the Donetsk Region, the SBU reports.

To gather intelligence, she traveled to settlements in Kurakhove, Myrnohrad, Selidove, Novohrodivka and Mykhailivka. To identify and record the positions of Ukrainian troops, she would travel up to 100 km near the front line in a day by public transport.

The defendant is a 33-year-old resident of Novogrodovka, whom an FSB officer remotely recruited in October 2023.

The agent used an anonymous chat room in messenger and transmitted information in text messages and marks on Google Maps.

She received a monetary "reward" from the Russian curator for completing the tasks, which was transferred to her bank card. Russian agents needed the intelligence to plan their own military operations, including artillery attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops on the eastern front.

SBU officers timely exposed the agent, documented her criminal actions, and detained her in the apartment. Thanks to the prompt response of the Ukrainian special service, a set of measures was taken to secure the positions and routes of movement of military units.

Now she is in custody. The investigation is continuing to establish all the circumstances of the offense. The attacker faces life imprisonment.
