US imposes new Russia-related sanctions against defense network
The US government imposed new sanctions on Russia targeting assets of the Defense Ministry, the Treasury press release says.
The Ashuluk training ground and the Vladimir Advanced Military Research Complex are now subject to restrictions. The US also imposed restrictions on the Director General of the State Airline 224th Separate Aviation Detachment, Vladimir Mikheichik.
Washington has unveiled restrictions against three Russian heavy military transport aircraft: two IL-76MD and one AN-124.
The training field was made for testing anti-aircraft missile weapons of the air defense forces and conducting military exercises with the use of these weapons.
The 224th aviation unit is a subsidiary of Russia's Defense Ministry, which provides air transportation services for government agencies and performs non-scheduled commercial cargo transportation in Russia and abroad.
On December 18, the EU adopted the twelfth package of economic and individual restrictive measures in connection with the continuation of Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine.
In line with the decision by the October EU Council to further weaken Russia's ability to continue its aggression against Ukraine, Josep Borrell, together with the Commission, submitted last night a proposal for the 12th package of sanctions.
The sanctions package includes a ban on the supply of machines that can be used for weapons production.
The EU also wants to ban imports of liquid propane, cast iron, copper and aluminum wire, foil and pipes. The list also includes a significant number of additional individuals and legal entities.
The key point of the package remains the embargo on Russian diamonds starting January 1, 2024. The EU also plans to gradually ban imports of Russian diamonds that have been processed in third countries.
Borrell said the EU has proposed "a powerful set of new lists and economic measures that will further weaken the Russian military machine."
The US has announced a new package of sanctions against two dozen individuals and organizations in Iran and other countries that provided financial benefits to the Iranian regime and, in particular, its military machine.
The US government imposed sanctions on more than 250 individuals and organizations in Russia and other countries related to the war and the side's assistance in circumventing previously imposed restrictions.
