Ukraine’s army chief says Russian forces gain no success near Kupiansk

After visiting Ukrainian positions near Kupiansk, the AFU Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi spoke about the situation on this part of the front.

Kupiansk has been a point of constant tensions and Russian attempts to recapture the town after its liberation in Ukraine's 2022 offensive.

"For several days, we worked in the area of responsibility of the Khortytsia separate military unit. The frontline remains active. Russian forces are trying to advance in all directions."

Zaluzhnyi noted that Ukrainian forces repelled attacks and inflicted significant losses on the enemy in manpower and equipment.

The army chief also mentioned "productive work" with brigade commanders performing tasks in Kupiansk.

"We have determined the sequence of our steps, taking into account the constant change in the operational situation and capabilities, and have made decisions to meet the priority needs of the units."

Ukrainian forces are holding the line in extremely difficult conditions. Zaluzhnyi thanked each brigade and all those who are fighting for Ukraine.

Zaluzhnyi and Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov visited positions near the town of Kupiansk.

The Telegraph recently quoted a source close to the Ukrainian military as saying that the Russians might launch a "ground offensive" in the Kharkiv region on January 15 after massive shelling.

The Land Forces spokesman Volodymyr Fitio said that the military had not observed any changes in the composition of enemy troops in the Kharkiv region and in Russia, which borders the region.
