Kyiv welcomes new psychological support center featuring dog therapy
The first InNikos therapy center, with the support of the Royal Canin Foundation, is now open in the Ukrainian capital.
Free sessions are available in both group and individual formats at 27e Pryrichna Street in Kyiv, Rubryka reports.
What's the problem?
Many Ukrainians, especially in the backdrop of the war, experience constant anxiety, stress, and the need for psychological support. This includes the military, veterans, and civilians affected by shelling or occupation.
So, psychological support for Ukrainians is more crucial now than ever.
What's the solution?
Canistherapy is a relatively new direction in psychosocial and physio-rehabilitative therapy in Ukraine. It involves interaction with specially trained dogs.
Regular interaction with these dogs not only increases serotonin and dopamine levels but also reduces cortisol, the stress hormone, and stimulates the production of endorphins — natural antidepressants.
Additionally, canistherapy aids in:
- Battling nightmares
- Social integration
- Reducing anxiety or anger
- Alleviating PTSD symptoms
How does it work?
The InNikos therapy center in Kyiv and future centers under the Royal Canin Foundation program will primarily provide support and assistance to the military, their families, as well as children and adults who have suffered from the war.
Qualified psychologists and dog trainers with at least five years of experience work in the center and the dogs meet all necessary criteria. They are friendly to new people and respond calmly to noise and unfamiliar situations.
Although dog therapy is not legislatively regulated in Ukraine, the Center's animals receive international certifications such as IAHAIO, PADA, and ASB.
"Royal Canin Foundation supports projects that promote the important role of pets in human health and well-being. The opening of the capital's center is just the beginning of our ambitious plan to open canistherapy facilities in other regions of the country over the next two years," says Viktoria Vozniuk, Public Relations Director at Royal Canin Ukraine. "Canistherapy has long proven to be an effective additional method in comprehensive therapy, demonstrating impressive results worldwide. Today, drawing on global experience, we use this method in Ukraine to help our fellow citizens, heroes, and their families."
