The Russian forces continue to target Ukraine's medical infrastructure daily.

Despite this, in collaboration with partners, the Ministry of Health is working to restore medical facilities to ensure healthcare remains accessible to everyone, Rubryka reports, citing the ministry's statement.

What's the problem?

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the northeastern Kharkiv region, like other front-line areas, has been constantly under Russian rocket attacks and targeted strikes. As a result, many infrastructure facilities, including medical ones, have been damaged or completely destroyed.

Among the medical institutions affected in the region, the Balakliia Primary Health Care Center was damaged early in the war. The center consists of 36 clinics and paramedic-obstetric points serving residents of two territorial communities — Balakliia and Savynske.

Due to combat actions, 16 Primary Health Care Center facilities were damaged, and five were completely destroyed. This included damaged roofs and ceilings, broken windows and doors, and damaged outbuildings, and more.

What's the solution?

Thanks to the joint efforts of partners and charity organizations, including the organization "Patients of Ukraine Foundation," repair and construction work has been successfully carried out in the medical institution:

  • Restoration of the roof,
  • Replacement of damaged doors, windows, and glass units,
  • Repairs to the premises, and more.

How does it work?

As of today, 10 out of 21 units have already been restored, and four have been partially restored, with the center's reconstruction ongoing.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, 1,497 medical facilities have been damaged, with 195 completely destroyed. 451 medical institutions have been fully restored, and another 404 have been partially restored.
