Number of Ukrainian children injured by Russian shelling increased – Prosecutor General’s Office

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, almost 1,700 children have suffered injuries of varying severity

According to the Prosecutor General's Office, 515 were killed, and over 1,180 were wounded, Rubryka reports.

The prosecutor's office data as of January 4, 2023, shows at least 1,697 children suffered due to the Russian aggression.

Juvenile prosecutors stress that these figures are not final, as the work continues to establish them in areas of active combat, temporarily occupied, and liberated territories.

As of January 4, the Prosecutor General's Office reported that the highest number of affected children is in:

• Donetsk region: 499
• Kharkiv region: 312
• Kyiv region: 130
• Mykolaiv region: 97
• Chernihiv region: 72
• Luhansk region: 67
• Kherson region: 143
• Zaporizhzhia region: 100
• Dnipropetrovsk region: 105

The latest identified crimes against children include:

• On January 1, a 15-year-old boy died due to a Russian drone attack on Odesa.
• On January 2, a 2-year-old boy was injured in the capital as a result of the Russian attack; he is in the hospital.
• On January 2, five children aged 6 to 13 were injured in Kharkiv due to rocket strikes by Russian occupiers.
• On January 2, a 6-year-old boy was injured in the Kyiv region due to Russian attacks.
• On January 3, a 15-year-old girl was injured in the Mykolaiv region due to Russian rocket shelling.
• On January 3, a 16-year-old boy suffered physical injuries in Hlynyk, Donetsk region, due to artillery shelling by the Russian army.

As of October 18, juvenile prosecutors emphasize that they have identified the location of 19,256 missing children. The prosecutor says 1,497 minors are considered missing.

Additionally, 13 children have suffered from sexual violence.

The Prosecutor General's Office also emphasized that 19,546 children were abducted and deported to Russia and the so-called republics, with only 3,86 minors returning home.

"Children of War" is a platform where information about children affected by the Russian war against Ukraine can be reported and found.

The Save Ukraine team successfully evacuated 19 more Ukrainian children from temporarily occupied territories as part of the twelfth rescue mission.

A documentary project titled "Unbroken Children. I'm waiting" has been released in Ukraine, telling the stories of little Ukrainians who have faced Russian aggression.
