Germany to provide Ukraine with air defense systems, ammunition, and armored vehicles

Germany has once again updated the list of military assistance provided to Ukraine, including the crucial air defense system Skynex with ammunition.

Rubryka reports that the German authorities also announced the provision of ten Marder infantry fighting vehicles and missiles for the IRIS-T anti-aircraft missile system.

The partner country will also supply Ukraine with a range of other weaponry, namely:

• Two TRML-4D radars for the IRIS-T anti-aircraft missile system
• 30 UAV detection sensors
• One Biber bridge layer 
• Three HX81 trucks and one trailer for them
• Ten Mercedes-Benz Zetros trucks
• Two WiSENT 1 MC mine-clearing vehicles 
• 34 transport vehicles
• 9,080 155mm artillery shells
• Ammunition for Leopard 2A6 tanks
• Ten Ground Observer 12 ground radars
• 3,350 M92 helmets
• 305 MK 556 rifles
• 750,000 rounds
• 1,152 winter camouflage nets
• 2,000 winter camouflage ponchos.

The Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Serhii Naiev, stated that the ammunition in Kyiv's mobile air defense groups would be sufficient for several large-scale Russian air attacks.

"The current situation with portable anti-aircraft missile systems for mobile air defense groups is such that there is enough ammunition to withstand several upcoming powerful attacks. But in the medium and long term, we need assistance from Western countries to replenish the missile arsenal," AFP quoted the lieutenant general.

Naiev stressed that the availability of ammunition was a priority because the Russian army "really wants to exhaust" Ukraine's air defense.

In other news, Ukraine should not expect that the delivery of long-range Taurus missiles can be done quickly.

On May 27, Ukraine officially requested Germany to provide it with Taurus long-range missiles. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed this issue with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Germany's assistance

On October 14, Germany handed over Bandvagn 206 multi-purpose tracked all-terrain vehicles, vehicles for border guards, and 50 systems for detecting drones to Ukraine.

On October 11, Germany announced a new military aid package to Ukraine worth about one billion euros. The package includes additional air defense systems, tanks, and ammunition.

During a visit to Kyiv on November 21, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced a new aid package for Ukraine.

Also, on December 14, Germany announced a new military aid package with ammunition and equipment for Ukraine's Armed Forces. The package includes 7,390 caliber 155 mm shells for Ukrainian Western-style artillery and 47,040 rounds of 40 mm caliber for automatic and hand-held grenade launchers.

As Rubryka reported, the second Patriot system that Germany promised to transfer to Kyiv will be operational in Ukraine later this year.
