Russian rockets attack several power facilities in Ukraine's central city of Kropyvnytskyi
On the morning of January 4, Russian forces launched a missile attack on the central city of Kropyvnytskyi.
According to the head of the Kirovohrad Regional Military Administration, Andrii Raikovych, one person was killed, and several were injured at an industrial facility, Rubryka reports.
First, explosions were heard in Kropyvnytskyi. At that time, Raikovych asked citizens not to post anything on social media, promising to provide details later on what had happened.
"During another missile attack on Kropyvnytskyi, the enemy presumably launched a Kh-59 missile. Buildings on several local energy facilities were damaged," the head of the regional administration later stated.
According to him, the most tragic aspect was that workers were affected.
"Eight workers with injuries of varying degrees have been taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, one worker died," Raikovych said.
All the injured suffered shrapnel wounds. It is also known that one person who died was an auto mechanic.
"The regional hospital and the Emergency Medical Service promptly provided assistance. Everyone in need of inpatient care is under the care of doctors," the head of the region said.
According to Raikovych, emergency services are still working at the affected sites.
"The fire of one vehicle has been promptly extinguished. Inspection of several partially destroyed buildings is ongoing. Also, a power transmission line was damaged," he added, noting that there were electricity and water supply disruptions in some areas of the city, but everything has now been restored.
The missile attack damaged one of the facilities of the National Energy Company "Ukrenergo" in Kropyvnytskyi.
"The facility of PJSC 'Kirovohradoblenergo' also suffered damage," the Ministry of Energy reported. Emergency teams from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) are still on-site.
Investigative groups continue to work at the scene and search for missile fragments.
The support of the power transmission line (35 kilovolts) was also damaged. Airlines were de-energized as a result of the attack. Household consumers and the railway were left without voltage.
Currently, power engineers are working to restore electricity. The situation is under control, the department said.
Later in the day, explosions were heard again in Kropyvnytskyi.
"Sounds of explosions are heard in Kropyvnytskyi," said suspilne.media.
