Russian rocket strikes school in Kharkiv by night
On the evening of January 2, Russian forces once again struck the northeastern city of Kharkiv.
The missile hit a school building in the Osnovianskyi city district, the Ukrainian national broadcaster Suspilne Kharkiv reports.
Initially, the Russian attack on Kharkiv with S-300 ground-to-air missiles was reported by the Air Force.
Then, witnesses reported that a missile hit one of the schools in the Osnovianskyi district of Kharkiv. A part of the two-story building collapsed.
At the site of the explosion, a crater about ten meters in diameter formed and filled with water. Rescue workers suspect that the missile strike damaged an underground water pipeline.
At least three private houses nearby had shattered windows. Photos of the aftermath of the Russian missile strike were also published.
Attack on Kharkiv on January 2
Early on January 2, an air raid alert was announced in Ukraine. Kyiv and Kharkiv were already under massive attack, with explosions echoing in other regions as well. In particular, there were several explosions in Kharkiv.
Later, it became known that Russia had launched at least six strikes on the city, especially in the central part.
A 91-year-old woman died. Over 50 people were reported injured, including six children. 38 people are in hospitals, three in critical condition, and one person is in a coma.
According to the city council, the Russian missile attacks with Kinzhal ballistic rockets and S-300 missiles damaged 33 buildings, gas pipelines, and heating networks. The areas hit by the attacks are currently without electricity, and six buildings are temporarily without heating.
After the missile strikes on the morning of January 2, the State Emergency Service (SES) firefighters extinguished three fires.
