Forbes: Russia spent about $620 million on massive rocket strikes on Ukraine on January 2

One of the most massive Russian rocket attacks on Ukraine on January 2 cost Russia around $620 million. 

Forbes Ukraine based their calculations on data from the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and open-source information, Rubryka reports.

The publication reports that preliminary data indicates that during the night and morning of January 2, Russian forces used a total of 99 rockets of various types and strike drones against Ukraine:

• In the first wave, the Russians attacked Ukrainians with Shahed-136/131 drones; all 35 were destroyed.
• In the morning, Russia used strategic aviation — Tu-95MS bombers, which launched at least 70 cruise missiles, Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55.
• The Russian forces also launched ten Kh-47M2 "Kinzhal" ballistic missiles from MiG-31K fighter jets.
• Three Kalibr cruise missiles.
• Twelve Iskander-M/S-300/S-400 missiles.
• Four K-31P anti-radiation missiles.

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi reported that Ukrainian defenders destroyed:

• Ten out of Ten air-launched ballistic missiles, Kh-47M2 "Kinzhal"
• 59 out of 70 cruise missiles, Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55,
• Three out of three Kalibr cruise missiles.

"Considering that the exact distribution of rockets by type remains unknown, Forbes estimates their cost at approximately $620 million," the publication said.

The following estimates were used for the calculation:

• Cost of Kh-101 missile: $13 million,
• Cost of Kalibr missile: $6.5 million,
• Cost of Iskander missile: $3 million,
• Cost of Oniks missile: $1.25 million,
• Cost of Kh-22 missile: $1 million,
• Cost of Tochka-U missile: $0.3 million,
• Cost of Kh-55 missile: $2 million,
• Cost of Kh-555 missile: $4 million,
• Cost of Kh-47 "Kinzhal" missile: $15 million,
• Cost of Shahed-136 UAV: $50,000.

In September, Forbes reported that direct military expenses and the cost of lost equipment for the Russian Federation during 18 months of aggression in Ukraine amounted to approximately $167.3 billion.

Before this, the destroyed Russian cruiser "Moskva" was the most expensive military loss for Russia in the war with Ukraine.

Runryka reported that on the night of April 14, two Ukrainian Neptune missiles hit the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet with the most powerful armament. The cruiser "capsized and began to sink," according to Vladyslav Nazarov, an officer of the "South" operational command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Forbes calculated the approximate cost by comparing "Moskva" with the cruiser of the same class "Ukraine," which in 1995 cost $720 million.

As Rubryka reported, on December 26, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the large landing ship "Novocherkassk" of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in the area of occupied Feodosia.

Moreover, the head of the Unified Coordination Press Center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine's South, Natalia Humeniuk, suggested that another ship in Feodosia might have been damaged.
