Ukrainian hackers shut down payment terminals in Russia

The Ukrainian IT Army made a "New Year's cyber gift to the Russians." Hackers stopped the operation of payment terminals in the Russian Federation. The largest manufacturer of online cash registers, Evotor, has not been working since yesterday.

The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine reported this.

"The Russians' attempt to pay for New Year's gifts without cash is turning into a defeat," the ministry said.

According to the ministry, New Year's "prime time" in Russia has collapsed.

"Russians cannot pay by card at the cash registers of shops, cafes, hairdressers, or other businesses using payment terminals. This can cause serious damage to the aggressor's economy," the Ministry of Statistics added.

As reported on the organization's website, the Ukrainian IT Army is a community of IT specialists from around the world who united after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.

"We are the most powerful community in Ukraine and can hold more than 800 targets simultaneously. Specialists of various levels have created and continue to create automated systems of attacks on the information resources and services of the aggressor country," the website reads.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukrainian IT has been attacking the websites of central Russian banks and state institutions. The websites of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, Roskomnadzor, and Rosaviatsia have stopped working. Large and state-owned (propaganda) mass media also stopped working due to hacker attacks.

The Ukrainian IT army recently paralyzed the work of the Russian enterprise management system 1C-Rarus.

It was also reported that the Ukrainian IT Army hacked the Russian cloud service Bitrix24, which is used by the largest sponsoring companies of Russia's war against Ukraine, including the Rosneft corporation.

Disruptions in the operation of "Bitrix24" services occurred in several Russian cities, in particular, in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ekaterinburg, Samara, Ufa, Chelyabinsk, Krasnodar, as well as in the capital of Belarus, Minsk.

In addition, the cyber units of the Main Directorate of Intelligence attacked the Russian tax system and managed to destroy the entire database and its backup copies: from now on, the Russian Federation will not be able to resuscitate its institution fully.
