Ukraine recognizes Volyn community weaving as national cultural heritage

Traditional weaving in the Kamin-Kashyr community in Volyn was included in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The Volyn Scientific and Methodological Center of Culture reported this.

According to the institution, according to the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the traditional weaving of the Kamin-Kashyr community currently can be found in 24 villages:

• Vyderta, Podrieche, Shchytyn, Borovne, Bronytsia, Velyka Hlusha,
• Pnivne, Mala Hlusha, Huta-Borovenska, Hrudky, Voiehoshche, Rakiv Lis,
• Nevir, Mostyshche, Cherne, Melnyky, Buzaky, Vorokomle,
• Soshychne, Ostrovok, Kachyn, Farynky, Dobre and Pidvorocheche.

In its order, the Ministry of Culture recommended that the community develop and present a plan to protect weaving for five years by February 15, 2024.

As noted in the Volyn Scientific and Methodological Center, in addition to weaving, the national list of intangible cultural heritage from Volyn also includes:

• "Straw weaving and folk floristry of the Turiia region,"
• preparation of the Ukrainian traditional dish "Holubtsi".

For reference:

On the eve of the New Year, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine decided to include "Traditions of the Generous Evening in Ukraine" in the National List of Elements of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Ukraine.

In addition, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy included "Preparation of the Ukrainian traditional dish "Holubtsi" in the National List of Elements of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Ukraine from the Odesa region.
